Onward
After Lombok we sailed back to Bali. Our first stop was the
city of Ubud which is regarded as the cultural center of the island filled with
arts, crafts, and unique architecture. Next, the town of Tulamben on the northeast
coast offered us a chance to snorkel the shipwreck Liberty, a US cargo ship
torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in 1942. The ship was towed to the beach to be salvaged but in 1963 the eruption of
Mt. Agung broke the ship in half and drove it into the water just off shore
where it became encrusted with coral and a home to other sea life.
Within no time we headed back to Uluwatu for another surf
fix and then Kuta for my dive with the sharks. I researched and found an
organization that created an ocean nursery to protect sharks. The nursery is an
alternative to young sharks being killed for food. The same fishermen that used
to kill sharks for fins are now saving sharks. Last year, Bali Sharks was able
to save and release 25 sharks. When I
visited the floating tank, it was filled with 18 sharks, Black & White Reef
Tips, Wobbegong and Bambu sharks. The
marine eco-tour is 100% safe and controlled and allowed me to feed and visit
the sharks underwater, dream come true.
We flew into Singapore for a day trip on our way to Cambodia where we currently reside. Ankor Wat here we come!
